Homework

Jan. 23, 2012

Today in class, I conferenced with 4-6 students in each writing block about their essay scores and provided detailed feedback to encourge students to revise and return by Thursday for a revised grade.

Homework:  Students should write a paragraph this evening - as a journal entry about anything that they are really thinking about and that is meaningful to them.

Reading:  All students need to come to class with their books and book projects.  Further, all students should be reading at least 20 minutes a night and responding to the book as well.

Writing: Students should by now have a solid thesis statement and now should begin writing their intro and body paragraphs.  A final draft is due Friday Jan. 20th, 2012

Reading:  All students need to bring in their books and book report work to class each day.  Reading for at least 20 minutes is also required each night.

Welcome back students and familes!

Happy New Year to all.  Today was a great first day back as all of the students were energized to dive back into their studies.  Please ensure that your child is reading at least 20 minutes each night from their selected CAFE book.  This is a requirement for each night.

Writing Homework:  Today, we took time to create personal goals for ourselves as a way to connect to the 7 Habits.  Habit #2 is Begin with the End in Mind.  By taking time to set goals, we are practicing this important life skill.  Please review the goal with your child and help them make any necessary revisions and then sign the document.  Further, our new major writing assignment is to design 2 essays.  The 1st is a personal essay.  Tonight, students are to observe life around them and write about what this observation makes them realize as a way to generate ideas for  a possible essay topic.

On Thursday, all students will take the MAP reading test.  Since scores are ready on the same day, your child will be able to share their results on Thursday evening.

Thank you!

Mr. Stein
